Updated February 3, 2026 · Editorial Policy

Opera GX users hit two issues: the “Are you still watching?” pause and GX-specific video bugs. Fix both quickly.

Last verified: February 2026

Quick fixes

1) Colors look neon / “deep fried”

  • Turn off RGX/Lucid Mode: opera://settings/lucidMode → toggle off (or click RGX on the player overlay).

2) Stuttering or dropped frames

  • Change graphics backend: opera://flags/#use-angle → set to D3D9 (AMD/Intel) or OpenGL (NVIDIA) → relaunch.

3) Tabs crash / “Out of memory” on YouTube

  • Disable Opera’s built-in adblocker for YouTube only; it loops with YouTube’s detector. Use a dedicated blocker or AutoTube instead.

4) Stop the pause prompt

  • Install the YouTube Nonstop/AutoTube extension from the Chrome Web Store (works in Opera). Keep one YouTube tab open.

Permanent fix

Opera updates often re-toggle RGX and flags. Get the version that auto-adjusts and keeps playing.
